A message from Lt. Gen. Lawrence D. Nicholson, Okinawa Area Coordinator:

"This past Sunday, a 61-year-old Okinawan lost his life because of an automobile accident allegedly caused by a U.S. service member believed to be under the influence of alcohol. Drinking and driving is not acceptable. This Thanksgiving week, reflect on our role and obligations to our nation. Effective at 4:30 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 22, all uniformed personnel in Okinawa will move to a Tier-2 modified liberty status. Off-base liberty island-wide is authorized from 5 a.m. to midnight for all ranks. Until further notice, there will be no sale or consumption of alcohol on or off base. During this holiday, take time to reflect as to why we are here in Japan, so far away from home and family.

We are better than this. We must be. Our nation and citizens of Japan are counting on us. Have a safe and happy Thanksgiving."
