Lieutenant Colonel Jeffrey Hammond

7th Communication Battalion Commanding Officer

Lieutenant Colonel Jeff Hammond was born in Flint, Michigan, and attended Officer Candidate School receiving commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in 1996. Following The Basic School and specialty school, he was designated a Communications Officer. He then served a tour in North Carolina, which included deployments with Marine Air Control Squadron 2 and 3d Battalion, 2d Marines both as the Communications Officer. 
 

He then attended resident Professional Military Education in Quantico, Virginia. Afterwards, LtCol Hammond served as company commander, 7th Communication Battalion, Okinawa, Japan and once complete moved to the Marine Corps Communication Electronics School 29 Palms, California, as an instructor and school director.
 

Next, he moved to 2d Marines in North Carolina, where he deployed to Afghanistan as a Communications Officer. He then attended U.S. Army resident Professional Military Education in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, and the School of Advanced Military Studies in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. Upon completion of school and reassignment as a Marine Air Ground Task Force Planner, LtCol Hammond moved to III MEF. He is currently the G-3 Future Operations Officer with 3D Marine Expeditionary Brigade in Okinawa, Japan.

 

He graduated from The University of Michigan-Flint in 1995 with a Bachelor’s of Business Administration, received a Master’s of Communication Information Systems from Boston University in 1999, and earned a Master’s of Military Arts and Sciences from the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College in 2013. He deployed with Regimental Combat Team 2 to Afghanistan in 2010 in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM. 
 

He also deployed in support of disaster relief operations in Thailand for the 2004 Tsunami. He has been married to his wife for 19 years and they have three children.

 

His personal awards include the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, and a Certificate of Commendation.
