Lieutenant Colonel John Nash
Lieutenant Colonel John Nash was raised in New York and graduated from Plattsburgh State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education.
LtCol Nash attended recruit training at 3D Recruit Training Battalion, Parris Island in 1996, Officer Candidates School in 1998, and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in May 1999 through the Platoon Leaders Course. Upon graduation of The Basic School in Jun 2000, he attended the Infantry Officer Course and the Ground Intelligence Officer Course in Dam Neck, Virginia.
Following Ground Intelligence Officers Course he reported to 1st Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion in 2001 where he served as an Anti-Tank Platoon Commander.
In Aug 2002, LtCol Nash was assigned to 1st Reconnaissance Battalion where he served as a Platoon Commander and as the Assistant Intelligence Officer. During this assignment he deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) I.
In May of 2004, LtCol Nash reported to the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps Unit at the University of Illinois where he served as the Marine Officer Instructor. LtCol Nash was then selected to attend resident Expeditionary Warfare School (EWS) in Quantico, VA in Aug 2007.
LtCol Nash graduated from EWS in May 2008 and reported to 2D Intelligence Battalion where he again deployed to Iraq to serve as the Intelligence Advisor on the Anbar Operations Command Advisor Team (AOC-AT). Upon re-deployment in Sept 2009, LtCol Nash served as the Executive Officer for 2D Intelligence Battalion. Then, after taking Company Command of the Counter-Intelligence Human Intelligence Company, LtCol Nash deployed to Afghanistan in Jan 2011 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) 11.1 and 11.2. Upon his redeployment in Jan 2012, he continued to serve as the Company Commander until his selection to attend the United States Army Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. While attending Command and Staff, LtCol Nash also earned a Master’s of Science in Education from Kansas State University.
Upon completion of Command and Staff College and Kansas State University in Jun 2013, LtCol Nash reported to United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) in Tampa, Florida where he served until Jun 2016. While at USSOCOM, LtCol Nash served as the Chief of Intelligence Plans and as the Aide-de-Camp to the Deputy Commander, USSOCOM.
In Jun 2016, LtCol Nash reported to Okinawa, Japan to serve as the Plans Officer for the G-2, III Marine Expeditionary Force.
His personal decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal; Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with two Gold Stars; Joint Service Achievement Medal; Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with one Gold Star and Combat “V” distinguishing device; Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal; and the Combat Action Ribbon.
