Sergeant Major Christopher S. Gasser 


Sergeant Major Christopher S. Gasser was born 9 September 1977, in Torrance, California.  He enlisted in the Marine Corps and attended Recruit Training in November 1997 at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego. He attended Marine Combat Training at Camp Pendleton, California and was reassigned to the Field Radio Operators Course, Marine Corps Communications-Electronics School in Twenty-nine Palms, California.  He was selected to go to Multi-Channel Equipment Operators Course and graduated August, 1998.

In August 1998, Private First Class (PFC) Gasser was assigned to Marine Wing Communication Squadron 18 in Camp Foster, Okinawa, Japan.  PFC Gasser attended the Nuclear Biological Chemical Decontamination Course and became certified in NBC Monitor/Survey/Decontaminations.  He also participated in numerous communication exercises to include Cobra Gold in Thailand and UFL in Guam. 

In September 1999, LCpl Gasser was assigned to Communications Company, Headquarters Battalion, 1st Marine Division and was promoted to Corporal in November 1999 holding the billets of Team Leader, Site Chief, Squad Leader and Platoon Sergeant and was promoted to Sergeant (Sgt) in October 2000.  Sgt Gasser was attached to the USNS Bellatrix in October 2002 and deployed to Kuwait in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and reattached back to 1st Marine Division Forward/Task Force Tripoli in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

In March 2004, Sgt Gasser was assigned to Marine Wing Support Squadron (MWSS) 374 in Twenty-nine Palms, California as the Radio Chief.  He returned to Iraq and was station at the Al Taquaddum Air Base and was promoted to Staff Sergeant (SSgt) in May, 2004.  SSgt Gasser extended his deployment and was attached to Marine Wing Support Group 37 serving as the Watch Chief within the Combat Operations Center.  Upon returning to CONUS in February 2005, SSgt Gasser reattached back to MWSS-374 and became the Logistics Chief and Armory Chief.  He later redeployed to Iraq with the 3rd Brigade, 7th Division Iraqi Army Military Transition Team as the G-6 Advisor.  SSgt Gasser returned to CONUS in September of 2006. 

In April 2007, SSgt Gasser was reassigned to Marine Combat Instructor Course, School of Infantry (West), graduating in June 2007.  Upon completion, he was assigned to Company F, Marine Combat Training Battalion and served as a Squad Instructor, Platoon Sergeant, and Platoon Commander.  He was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant (GySgt) in March 2008 and was assigned to Company G serving as the Company Gunnery Sergeant.  In June 2009, he was reassigned to Headquarters and Instructor Company and served as the Battalion Logistics Chief.

In June 2010, GySgt Gasser received orders to report to 2nd Battalion, 11th Marines as the Battalion Radio Chief.  Continuing to support the mission and successfully training and mentoring his Marines in preparation for an upcoming deployment, he was selected to the rank of First Sergeant (1stSgt).  In January 2011, he was assigned as the Battery First Sergeant for Battery G, 2nd Battalion, 11th Marines Regiment and later deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom where he was based at FOB Zeebrugge, Kajaki District. 

In October 2012, 1stSgt Gasser received orders to Inspector and Instructor Duty as the Inspector and Instructor First Sergeant for Weapons Company, 3rd Battalion, 25th Marines Regiment located in North Canton, Ohio and held the billets of Executive Officer, Safety Officer, ATFP Officer, CACR, along with other collateral duties.

In July 2016, 1stSgt Gasser received orders to Headquarters Company, Combat Logistics Regiment 35, Okinawa, Japan.  He was selected, then frocked to his current rank in February 2017.

SgtMaj Gasser was reassigned to Combat Logistics Battalion 31, 31st MEU, Okinawa, Japan, as the Battalion Sergeant Major.  During this assignment, he deployed throughout the Indo-Pacific during the 17.1 – 18.2 Patrols.   

In February 2019, SgtMaj Gasser was assigned to his current duty station as Battalion Sergeant Major for 3d Intelligence Battalion, 3d MIG, III MEF, Okinawa, Japan. 

SgtMaj Gasser is married to the former Marissa Lipata and has three daughters; Hanna (28), Sandra (26) and Marciana (10.)

His personal decorations include the Bronze Star, Navy Commendation Medal (w/ two gold stars in lieu of 3rd award), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (w/ two gold stars in lieu of 3rd award), Combat Action Ribbon, as well as numerous unit and service awards
