Commanding Officer of 3d Law Enforcement Battalion


LtCol Ruedi joined the Marine Corps in 1992 from his hometown of Vacaville, California.  Upon completion of entry level training he reported to Marine Corps Security Forces Detachment, USS KittyHawk.  As a security forces squad leader he completed a deployment to the western Pacific in 1994 and was subsequently selected for the Marine Corps Enlisted Commissioning Education Program. He graduated from San Diego State University and was commissioned a second lieutenant in December 1998.


Upon completion of The Basic School and US Army Military Police Officer Basic Course in 1999, he reported to Military Police Company, 1st Marine Division, Camp Pendleton California.  In this assignment, LtCol Ruedi served as platoon commander, officer-in-charge of non-lethal weapons for 1st Special Operations Training Group, MP detachment commander for MEU Service Support Group-11, and company executive officer.  During this tour, he deployed in support of Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom.

Upon graduation from the US Army Military Police Captains Career Course in 2005, LtCol Ruedi reported to the Provost Marshal’s Office, Marine Corps Base Camp Butler, Okinawa.  During this tour he served as officer in charge of Central District, operations officer, and deputy provost marshal.

In 2008, LtCol Ruedi reported to Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps, San Diego for service as marine officer instructor and assistant professor of naval science for the University of San Diego. During this tour LtCol Ruedi also served as commanding officer of Company “E”, for a summer session of Officer Candidates School.

In 2010, LtCol Ruedi was selected to join Marine Helicopter Squadron One (HMX-1), the Presidential helicopter squadron, as the commanding officer of Security Company.  He was selected to attend Marine Corps Command and Staff College upon completion of his tour at HMX-1 in 2014. 

He reported to III Marine Expeditionary Force in June 2015. Where he served as the Force Protection Officer and Deputy Current Operations Officer.

LtCol Ruedi’s civilian education includes a Bachelor of Science in Financial Services from SDSU, a Master of Science in Security Management from Webster University, and a Master of Military Studies from Marine Corps University.  He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and of the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Seminar.

LtCol Ruedi’s personal awards include: Meritorious Service Medal with 2 gold stars, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with 1 gold star and 1 combat “V”, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and Combat Action Ribbon. 

LtCol Ruedi is married to Esther Ruedi (née Kim) of El Paso Texas.  They have two sons.
