III MEF RESERVE LIAISON OFFICE OVERVIEW
The mission of the III MEF IMA Program is to provide and manage expeditiously accessible additional manpower structure under crisis or wartime conditions. IMA Marines are available prior to mobilization of the Individual Ready Reserve (IRR). IMA Marines are trained in peacetime to perform specific duties and responsibilities when recalled to Active Duty (AD).
IMA Marines rate 48 drills as well as 12 or 13 days of Annual Training (AT) per Fiscal Year (FY). Unlike their SMCR counterparts, IMAs have no published/required drill schedules. They schedule their drills and AT with their AD counterparts according to their own individual schedules and their section’s requirements. However, the expectation at III MEF is that an IMA Marine completes their AT and drills in support of the largest exercises in the Asia-Pacific region at least once per fiscal year.
The III MEF IMA Program is managed by the III MEF G-1 Reserve Liaison Office (RLO), on Camp Courtney, Okinawa Japan. The RLO is the IMA Operations Sponsor for all IMA billets within III MEF CE, as well as to the following Major Supporting Commands:
