Sergeant Major Mario P. Fields
SgtMaj Fields enlisted in the Marine Corps on 3 August 1993. He attended recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, SC. He was selected as the Company Honor Graduate for 2nd Recruit Training Battalion, Company G, and was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal. After completing recruit training, SgtMaj Fields reported to Marine Combat Training (MCT) at Camp Geiger, NC. Upon graduating from MCT, he attended Personnel Administration School at Camp Johnson, NC.
From April 1994 to May 1997, SgtMaj Fields was assigned to Marine Aviation Training Support Group (MATSG) Naval Air Station, Pensacola, FL. During this tour, SgtMaj Fields was promoted to Corporal in January 1995, selected as MATSG’s 1994 Marine of the Year, and was meritoriously promoted to Sergeant in August 1996.
From June 1997 to June 1999, SgtMaj Fields was assigned to Marine Corps Security Force Battalion, Norfolk, VA and served with Marine Detachment (MARDET), USS George Washington CVN-73 and Marine Security Force Training Company, Chesapeake, VA. During this tour, he deployed with the MARDET to the Persian Gulf participating in Operation SOUTHERN WATCH and the build-up for Operation DESERT THUNDER.
From July 1999 to January 2003, SgtMaj Fields was assigned to Drill Instructor Duty at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, SC where he served with Echo Company, 2nd Recruit Training Battalion. During this tour, he was promoted to Staff Sergeant in November 2000 and meritoriously to Gunnery Sergeant in January 2003.
From January 2003 to December 2005, SgtMaj Fields was assigned to the Marine Corps National Capital Region Command and served as an Administration Chief and Senior Enlisted Advisor for the Marine Corps Historical Center, Washington Naval Yard, Washington, DC. He also served as a Company Gunnery Sergeant for Headquarters and Service Battalion, Henderson Hall until he was frocked to First Sergeant in December 2005.
From January 2006 to May 2009, SgtMaj Fields was assigned to 3d Marine Logistics Group and served as a Company First Sergeant for Communications Company and Headquarters Company, Combat Logistics Regiment 37, and Engineer Support Company, 9th Engineer Support Battalion (ESB). He also served as the Battalion Sergeant Major, Combat Logistics Battalion 31 (CLB), 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit. During this tour, he deployed with CLB-31 to Australia, the Republic of the Philippines, and the Republic of Cambodia. He deployed with 9th ESB to Twenty-nine Palms and Iraq in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM.
From July 2009 to May 2011, SgtMaj Fields was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 8th Marines (3/8) and served as a Company First Sergeant for Weapons Company. During this tour, he deployed with Battalion Landing Team 3/8, 26th MEU to the Republic of Djibouti and Afghanistan. He was frocked to SgtMaj in May 2011.
From June 2011 to September 2014, SgtMaj Fields was assigned to 2d Marine Aircraft Wing (MAW) and served as the Squadron SgtMaj for Marine Wing Headquarters Squadron 2 and Marine Attack Squadron 542 (VMA-542), Marine Aircraft Group 14 (MAG-14). During this tour, he deployed with VMA-542 to MAG-12, 1st MAW, Iwakuni, Japan in support of the Unit Deployment Program and 31st MEU.
From October 2014 to May 2016, SgtMaj Fields was assigned to 4th Marine Regiment, 3d Marine Division, Camp Schwab and served as the Regimental and Camp SgtMaj. During this tour, he participated in numerous on island exercises and community relationship events, deployed with the regiment to Twenty-nine Palms as the SgtMaj, Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force 4, the Republic of the Philippines, Hokkaido, Japan and Korea and served as the Regimental Sergeant Major for 12 infantry battalions forward deployed in support of the Unit Deployment Program.
On 8 June 2016, SgtMaj Fields was appointed as the SgtMaj for 3d Marine Expeditionary Brigade, III Marine Expeditionary Force Headquarters Group, and Camp Hansen.
His personal decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with one gold star, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with one gold star, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with three gold stars.
