Colonel Patterson received his baccalaureate degree from Rutgers University, New Brunswick, NJ, where he majored in Graphic Design (2003). He also earned a Master of Military Studies from Marine Corps University, Quantico, VA (2016) and a Master of Strategic Studies from the US Army War College (2023).
His military education includes: The Basic School, Quantico, VA, (2003-2004); Basic Communications Officer Course, Quantico, VA (2006); Expeditionary Warfare School, non-resident (2010); Advanced Communications Officer Course, Quantico, VA (2012); Command and Staff College, Quantico, VA (2015-2016); and the US Army War College, Carlisle, PA (2022-2023) where he was a graduate of the Joint Warfighting Advanced Studies Program.
Colonel Patterson’s principal command tours include: Communications Platoon Commander, 2nd Supply Battalion (-) (REIN), 2d Marine Logistics Group, Camp Lejeune, NC (2006-2008); Executive Officer, Company B, Marine Corps Communication-Electronics School, Twentynine Palms, CA (2010-2012); Executive Officer, Company B, 8th Communication Battalion, Camp Lejeune, NC (2012-2013); Company Commander, 3rd Marine Raider Support Battalion, Marine Corps Forces, Special Operations Command, Camp Lejeune, NC (2013-2015); and Battalion Commander, 7th Communication Battalion, III MIG (2020-2022).
His principal staff assignments include: Operations Officer and Network Support OIC, 2d MLG G6, Camp Lejeune, NC (2008); Communication Coordination & Plans Officer, II Marine Expeditionary Force G6, (2008-2009); Switching Training Section OIC, Company B, MCCES, Twentynine Palms, CA (2009-2011); Plans and Operations Officer Team Lead, Joint Special Operations Command J6, Fort Bragg, North Carolina (2016-2019); Deputy Assistant Chief of Staff G6, 3d Marine Division, Okinawa, Japan (2019-2020); O5 Information Monitor, Manpower & Reserve Affairs, HQMC, and AC/S G6, 3d Marine Division.
Col Patterson has several deployments in various capacities in support of OPERATIONS IRAQI FREEDOM, ENDURING FREEDOM, FREEDOM’S SENTINEL, and INHERENT RESOLVE and has supported contingency operations and major exercises in CENTCOM, PACOM, SOUTHCOM, and EUCOM.
His military decorations include: the Defense Meritorious Service Medal with one bronze oak leaf; the Meritorious Service Medal with two gold stars; the Joint Commendation Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with one gold star; the Joint Service Achievement Medal; the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with one gold star, and various unit awards. Additionally, he was the recipient of the US SOCOM Communications Officer of the Year Award (2018).
Colonel Patterson is married to Stephanie Jean Patterson and the two have four children: Shane (19), Jordan (16), Parker (14), and Gavin (11).
