Lieutenant Colonel Kieran R. O’Neil

Lieutenant Colonel Kieran R. O’Neil is a native of New York, NY.  He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy with a Bachelor of Science in Economics and commissioned in the Marine Corps in May 2005. 

Following completion of The Basic School and Logistics Officers Course, Lieutenant Colonel O’Neil was assigned to 5th Battalion, 10th Marine Regiment, 2d Marine Division in April 2006.  He served as the battalion assistant logistics officer and maintenance management officer until the battalion assumed a Civil Affairs Group mission.  From March 2007 to March 2008, Lieutenant Colonel O’Neil led a civil affairs team during the battalion’s Operation Iraqi Freedom deployment.  Upon redeployment, he assumed responsibility as the battalion S-4 logistics officer until the battalion was assigned as the Brigade Headquarters Group for 2d Marine Expeditionary Brigade – Afghanistan.  From February 2009 to February 2010, Lieutenant Colonel O’Neil served as the Camp Commandant for Camp Leatherneck, Afghanistan. 

In May 2010, Lieutenant Colonel O’Neil transferred to The Basic School to serve as a primary instructor and then staff platoon commander for Company E & Company I.  From May 2012 to June 2013, he served as the Executive Officer, Combat Service Support Company, Instructor Battalion. 

From June 2014 to June 2015, Lieutenant Colonel O’Neil served as Logistics Officer, 1st Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company, I Marine Expeditionary Force Headquarters Group.  He then served as operations officer for Combat Logistics Battalion 1 followed by Combat Logistics Regiment 1, 1st Marine Logistics Group from June 2015 to July 2017.

From July 2017 to July 2020, Lieutenant Colonel O’Neil was assigned to Marine Corps Logistics Operations Group, Marine Air Ground Task Force Training Command, Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center to serve as course chief, faculty advisor, and observer trainer controller in support of Intermediate MAGTF Logistics Operations Course, Logistics Staff Training Exercise, and Maneuver Warfare Exercise. 

Lieutenant Colonel O’Neil’s most recent assignment was Concepts & Wargames Section Head, Futures Branch, Logistics Plans, Policy, and Strategic Mobility, Installations & Logistics HQMC from June 2021 to May 2023.  Lieutenant Colonel O’Neil was promoted to his current rank in October 2021.

Lieutenant Colonel O’Neil is a graduate of Marine Corps Command & Staff College, Expeditionary Warfare School, Intermediate MAGTF Logistics Operations Course, and Advanced Maneuver Warfare Course.  He earned master’s degrees from Marine Corps Command & Staff College and Florida Institute of Technology.  His personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal gold star in lieu of fourth award, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal gold star in lieu of second award, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and Army Achievement Medal.
