Sergeant Major, 7th Communication Battalion
Sergeant Major Michael A. Moore JR.

Sergeant Major Moore was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in December 2000 and attended boot camp at Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD) San Diego, California. Upon graduation from boot camp, Private Moore reported to Marine Combat Training ,Camp Pendleton, California as a student. After graduation, Private Moore traveled to Fort Lee, Virginia where he attended his Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) School earning the MOS 3381 Food Service Specialist.

In 2001 Private First Class (PFC) Moore’s first assignment was to 3d Battalion 12th Marines, Camp Hansen Okinawa, Japan where he served as a Food Service Specialist, and Storeroom Non Commissioned Officer In Charge. During his tenure, PFC Moore supported Operation Cobra Gold and was promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal (LCpl). In 2002, LCpl Moore PCS’d to Marine Wing Support Squadron (MWSS) 373, Marine Corps Air Station Miramar where he served the billets of Chief Cook, Chief Baker, Storeroom NCOIC, and Assistant Field Mess NCO. From 2003-2004, LCpl Moore was promoted to the rank of Corporal and deployed in support of Operations Iraqi Freedom I &II with both MWSS 374 and 1st Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion.

In 2004, Cpl Moore was promoted to the rank of Sergeant (Sgt)and received orders to Drill Instructor School aboard MCRD, San Diego. In July 2005 Sgt Moore reported to Drill Instructor School 4-05. Upon completion of Drill Instructor School, he was assigned to 1st Recruit Training Battalion Charlie Company and Alpha Company where he served three cycles as a Drill Instructor, three cycles as a Junior Drill Instructor, and four cycles as a Senior Drill Instructor.

In September of 2008, Sgt Moore received orders to 1st Battalion 1st Marines where he served as the Assistant Mess Chief. During his tour with 1st Marines he deployed on the USS New Orleans in support of the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU). While deployed he served as an instructor, and Chief Instructor for the Battalion Landing Team's resident Corporals Course.

Sgt Moore was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant (SSgt) in 2009 and received orders to 1st Battalion 5th Marines. In 2009 SSgt Moore reported to 5th Marines where he served as the Battalion Mess Chief and was then deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. In January 2012, SSgt Moore then received orders to 3d Marine Headquarters Group (MHG) Okinawa, Japan where he served as the Assistant Mess Hall Manager, Subsistence Chief, and Mess Hall Manager. SSgt Moore then reported to the SNCOA Career Course as a student where he graduated as the Gung Ho recipient. After graduation, SSgt Moore then reported to Fort Lee, Virginia to the SNCO Food Service School where he graduated as the Honor Graduate.

SSgt Moore was selected to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant (GySgt) in 2014 and served as the Company Gunnery Sergeant for Headquarters Company Command Element 3d MEF. GySgt Moore was then hand selected to serve as the Company First Sergeant for Combined Arms Training Center (CATC) Camp Fuji from June 2014 until June 2015. GySgt Moore then received orders to MCIPAC G-4 where he served as the Quality Assurance Evaluator Chief, Production Manager, Camp Operations Chief, and Camp Director from 2014-2017. In 2017, GySgt Moore received orders to 2d Marine Logistic Group, Camp Lejeune North Carolina, where he served as the Operation Chief.

GySgt Moore was frocked to First Sergeant (1stSgt) in February 2018, and reported to 2d Battalion 10th Marine Regiment where he served as 2/10 Fox Battery First Sergeant. First Sergeant Moore deployed to Norway, Arctic Circle in support of operation Current Resolve. Upon return from deployment, First Sergeant Moore then checked into 2d Battalion 8th Marines (BLT) for assignment with the 26th MEU. Upon completion of the 26th MEU, First Sergeant Moore checked into Combat Logistics Regiment 3 where he served as the Headquarters Company First Sergeant. Sergeant Major Moore checked into 7th Communication Battalion on 15 November 2022, where he currently serves as the 7th Communication Battalion Sergeant Major.

His decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal in lieu of 4th award, The Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal in lieu of 4th award and numerous campaign and unit awards.
