Sergeant Major, 7th Communication Battalion
SgtMaj Hector S. Valadez

Sergeant Major Valadez hails from Chihuahua, Mexico, and spent his formative years in both El Paso, Texas, and Frederick, Maryland. He joined the Marine Corps in September 2003, completing recruit training with Charlie Company, 1st Recruit Training Battalion, at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, South Carolina. Following his training, he reported to the School of Infantry in Camp Geiger, North Carolina, in December 2003 for Marine Combat Training. In January 2004, he received a meritorious promotion to Private First Class and was later assigned to Camp Johnson, North Carolina, where he completed the Personnel Administration Military Occupational School (MOS) and was designated with the MOS 0111.

After graduating from school in March 2004, he began his service at the Marine Barracks in Washington D.C. He was assigned to the Marine Corps Institute, where he took part in numerous evening parades throughout the summer, including the funeral of President Ronald Reagan. During this period, Private First Class Valadez earned promotions to the ranks of Lance Corporal and Corporal.

In November 2006, Corporal Valadez reported to the Inspector Instructor Staff, B Co, 4th AA Bn, Jacksonville, FL to serve as an Administration Clerk. On October 2007, he was promoted to Sergeant and was assigned as the Administration Chief for Bravo Co.  In December 2007, he attended the Marine Corps Marksmanship Combat Instructor/Trainer Course at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina earning the additional MOS of 0931 and 0933. During his tour, Sergeant Valadez was integrated to serve as the Administration Chief for a deployment to Al Asad, Iraq with 1st Battalion, 8th Marines.  In June 2009, he attended the Martial Arts Instructor Course where he earned the secondary MOS of 0916.

In May 2010, he reported to Manpower and Reserve Affairs Department, HQMC, Quantico, VA to serve as the Joint Matters Chief.  In May 2011, he was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant.

In October 2012, Staff Sergeant Valadez reported to Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, South Carolina for Drill Instructor Duty.  He completed training cycles with Kilo, Mike and India Company; achieving the billets of Drill Instructor, Experienced Drill Instructor, Senior Drill Instructor and Chief Drill Instructor. He served his quota in the office of the Commanding General as the Protocol Chief/SNCOIC for MCRD Parris Island, South Carolina.  On December 2016, he was promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant.

In June 2016, Gunnery Sergeant Valadez reported to Marine Raider Support Group, Marine Special Operation Command, Camp Lejeune, NC to serve as the Administration Chief. In August 2016, he attended the Marine Corp Security Manager Course and held the collateral duty of Assistant Security Manager.

In January 2018, Gunnery Sergeant Valadez reported to 2d Battalion, 8th Marines, 2d Marine Division, Camp Lejeune, NC, to serve as the Administration Chief for Unit Deployment Program-East 18.1 to Okinawa, Japan.  Gunnery Sergeant Valadez was selected to the rank of First Sergeant and reported to Inspector Instructor Staff, North Canton, Ohio in March 2019.  During his tour, First Sergeant Valadez was hand-selected to serve as a platform instructor for the MARFORRES' SEL course  and held multiple collateral duties.

In March 2022, First Sergeant Valadez reported to Operations Company, 2d Intelligence Battalion, II MEF Information Group, Camp Lejeune, NC, where he was part of the establishment of a new company that is assigned to serve the II MEF Intelligence Operation Center.  In October 2022, First Sergeant Valadez was selected to the rank of Sergeant Major and received orders for March 2023 to Combat Logistics Battalion 24, Combat Logistics Regiment 2, 2d MLG, Camp Lejeune, NC. In October 2023, after composition to the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit (Special Operations Capable), he was deployed aboard the USS New York (LPD-21) where he served as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader for the Landing Force in support of operations in the 6th Fleet Area of Responsibility. In January 2025, SgtMaj Valadez reported to 7th Communication Battalion, III MEF Information Group, Okinawa, Japan to serve as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader.

Sergeant Major Valadez' personal awards include the, Meritorious Service Medal in lieu of second award, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal in lieu of fourth award, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal Gold Star in lieu of third award and the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal. Sergeant Major Valadez holds an Associates of  Arts in Criminal Justice from Stark State College.
