Navy Birthday - Message to the Force

13 Oct 2023 | III Marine Expeditionary Force

Marines, Sailors, civilians, and families of III MEF,

Today and tomorrow, on both sides of the International Dateline, our widely dispersed and busy MEF will celebrate the 248th birthday of the United States Navy.

On this birthday, we reflect on the storied history of our Navy and acknowledge its enduring legacy. The Navy's unparalleled dedication to safeguarding our nation's maritime interests, projecting power across the seas, and upholding the principles of freedom and democracy has left an indelible mark on our collective heritage. From the decisive victories of the past to the unwavering commitment displayed in the present, the Navy's steadfast resolve and relentless pursuit of excellence have earned a place of honor and distinction in the annals of military history.

The Navy and Marine Corps have served together for more than two centuries; we have fought in every clime and place.  Throughout the storied history of III MEF, Sailors have been by our side in every campaign, crisis, and conflict, sharing in all the dangers and hardships.  Our common traditions are deeply rooted.  We share the same values of Honor, Courage, and Commitment.

As we celebrate the Navy birthday, we honor our Sailors, past and present, for their service in peace and war.  In particularly, we remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Sergeant Major Kitashima, Command Master Chief Leppert, and I wish a happy 248th birthday to our Navy brothers and sisters.  Your fellow Marines salute you and your families.  Thank you for your dedicated service.

Happy Birthday, Semper Fidelis, and Semper Fortis!
