MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP BUTLER, Okinawa -- MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP BUTLER, Okinawa - U.S. Marine Lance Corporal Sebastian Borja-Diaz was pronounced dead after an apparent drowning accident at Maeda Point, Onna Village, Kunigami District, Okinawa, at approximately 1:40 p.m Sunday, October 30.

Borja-Diaz served as a Motor Vehicle Operator for 3rd Transportation Support Battalion, Combat Logistics Regiment-3, 3rd Marine Logistics Group, III Marine Expeditionary Force. Borja-Diaz is survived by his parents.

"3rd TSB is deeply saddened by Lance Corporal Borja-Diaz's passing," said Lieutenant Colonel Andre M. Ingram, Commanding Officer of 3rd TSB. "He was devoted to his job and his fellow Marines and worked diligently to set an example to be emulated by them. The entire unit mourns his loss."

Borja-Diaz, from Florida, enlisted in the Marine Corps on May 18, 2015. His duty stations prior to 3rd Transportation Support Battalion, Okinawa, Japan, include: U.S. Army Training Center, Fort Leonard Wood, MO.

His awards and decorations include the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.

An investigation is being conducted to determine the cause of the accident. The Marine Corps is focused on taking care of our Sailors, Marines, and their families. A command level investigation is underway regarding the Marine's death. There are no additional details available at this time.
