III Marine Expeditionary Force commanding general and Joint Task Force 505 commander, Lt. Gen. Kenneth J. Glueck, visited the Japanese island of Oshima April 3, one of the hardest hit locations from a tsunami triggered by a 9.0 magnitude earthquake that struck 230 miles off the coast of Tokyo March 11. Marines and sailors from the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, III MEF, are aiding in the clearing and clean-up operation named Operation Field Day. Cpl. Megan Angel has the story. jpearthquake11
