Marines with High Mobility Artillery Rocket System Platoon, 5th Battalion, 11th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, support exercise Northern Edge 17 in and around training posts at Fort Greely, Alaska, from May 1-13, 2017. Northern Edge is Alaska’s largest and premier joint training exercise designed to practice operations, techniques and procedures as well as enhance interoperability among the services. Thousands of participants from all the services—Airmen, Soldiers, Sailors, Marines and Coast Guard personnel from active duty, Reserve and National Guard units—are involved. Expeditionary Operations Training Group conducted a final certification exercise, March 21- 28, 2017, in Okinawa, Japan, to evaluate the readiness of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit and Company B, Marine Corps Security Force Regiment, to support the U.S. Navy’s 7th Fleet. U.S. Marine Sgt. John Perry and his wife, Meaghan Perry, discuss their experiences living off-base in Okinawa, Japan. The amount of service members living off base is slated to increase due to the construction and remodeling being done to the on-base housing at various U.S. military bases across Okinawa.
