The MRF reports directly to the MEU commander, acting as the eyes, ears and trigger finger in the battlespace, facilitating a wide array of operations and mission sets. The 31st MEU is operating aboard ships of the USS America Amphibious Ready Group in the 7th Fleet area of operations, the U.S. Navy’s largest forward-deployed numbered fleet, and routinely interacts and operates with allies and partners in preserving a free and open Indo-Pacific region. 160707-M-WH287-015 MARINE CORPS BASE HAWAII (July 7, 2016)--U.S. Marines, Australian and Indonesian soldiers conduct Ground Air Integration Training July 7, 2016 on Marine Corps Base Hawaii. This training is designed to enhance the interoperability of the combined RIMPAC forces during military operations in the maritime environment. Twenty-six nations, 49 ships, six submarines, about 200 aircraft, and 25,000 personnel are participating in RIMPAC from June 29 to Aug. 4 in and around the Hawaiian Islands and Southern California. The world’s largest international maritime exercise, RIMPAC provides a unique training opportunity while fostering and sustaining cooperative relationships between participants critical to ensuring the safety of sea lanes and security on the world’s oceans.
