The U.S. Navy and Sri Lanka Navy came together for Sri Lanka Health Engagement 17 at Naval Base Welisara, from Sept. 11 to Sept. 22, 2017. Together, they exchanged and practiced essential basic life-saving skills to build a stronger relationship between the two forces and to enhance medical readiness in any given situation. On March 8, 2019, a Sailor began having a seizure on a shooting range, and Berlin took immediate action to prevent further injury to her body until the hospital corpsman arrived. 1st MAW Marine saves 5 lives

While out for a walk, 1st Lt. John C. Dixon IV and his wife came across the local police requesting their assistance in making out shouts from the ocean at Sunabe Seawall, Okinawa, Japan, November 24, 2017. After listening they were able to hear people shouting help. Dixon waded out into the water with a life preserver and rescued one local Okinawan, three American college exchange students and one local police officer. Marines save life on Mt. Fuji

U.S. Marine Cpls. Otto Thiele, Eric Goodman, and Christopher Ehms and Lance Cpls. Antonio Martinez and Avelardo Guevara Osuna came together to assist a local Japanese woman during their hike on Mt. Fuji, Japan, July 3, 2017. The woman, Oda Moe, was found lying on the ground and hyperventilating when the Marines came to her assistance. Together, they created a makeshift stretcher to carry her down the mountain, approximately two miles, to get medical assistance at a police station. The Marines are with Electronics Maintenance Company, 3rd Maintenance Battalion, Combat Logistics Regiment 35, 3rd Marine Logistics Group, III Marine Expeditionary Force.

New York Marine saves tourist's life

Cpl. Daniel J. Benjamin tells his story of saving a tourists' life. On Aug. 31, Paula Genova was riding her bike when she lost control and was struck in the head by a tree branch. While losing a significant amount of blood and screaming for help, Benjamin came to her aid by taking her straight to the hospital. Benjamin recently received a coin from the III Marine Expeditionary Force sergeant major, Sgt. Maj. Lee D. Bonar Jr. for his selfless act. Paula is a tourist from Manila, Philippines. Benjamin is a digital wideband repair Marine with Headquarters Marine Wing Support Group 18, Marine Air Control Group 18, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, III Marine Expeditionary Force.
