Welcome to 3d Radio Battalion!
Congratulations on your assignment to 3d Radio Battalion (3dRadBn) here at Marine Corps Base Hawaii (MCBH) in Kaneohe Bay! We're thrilled to have you join the team and the family. Our first priority is ensuring sure you get settled in smoothly.
3dRadBn is a key component of the Marine Corps' Information Warfare capabilities. We provide vital communications support to the Marine Air-Ground Task Force (MAGTF), specializing in everything from tactical communications networks to electronic warfare and analysis. Expect a challenging and rewarding experience, and a chance to hone your skills in a unique and beautiful environment.
This guide provides a rough outline of what to expect when you first arrive, focusing on initial check-in procedures and some resources to help you get acquainted with MCBH and the island of Oahu.
Prior to Check-In:
Before you arrive to 3dRadBn, a representative of the Battalion should reach out to you, this is your Sponsor. They are going to have a few questions concerning things such as your reporting date, if you have dependents, if you are having a car shipped to the island, etc. This assists the Command in ensuring you have everything you need prior to arrival.
Pickup from the airport and checking in at 3dRadBn should be coordinated through your Sponsor, they will also be your main point of contact at the Battalion before you arrive and until you get settled in.
When you receive Official Orders to 3dRadBn, the Battalion Operations Sections are notified and will assign a Sponsor to you. Occasionally, though, Marines receive Original Orders with different reporting codes that exclude them from automatically notifying the Battalion. If you are within 14 days of reporting in and have not made contact with anyone from 3dRadBn, contact the Battalion Officer of the Day at (808) 753-8519. Inform them that you recently received Orders to PCS to 3dRadBn and that you have not made contact with a Sponsor yet. Provide your rank, name, and EDIPI, a call-back phone number, your MOS, and your projected check-in date. Your information will be disseminated to the proper sections and a Sponsor will reach out shortly after.
In-Processing:
Your first few days will be busy, here’s a general outline of the places you will need to visit and steps you will need to complete.

All check-ins during normal working hours will be conducted in the Service “A” uniform. Check-ins conducted outside of normal business hours will be in proper civilian attire, returning the following business day in the Service “A” uniform.
