For more than 241 years, Marines have fought and trained side-by-side with their brothers, sisters and allies, but often missed are the military working dogs. Marines have been fighting alongside their canine counterparts since World War II. Since then, they have been working together to accomplish a variety of military tasks, including explosive ordnance detection, combat tracking and the application of controlled aggression. Military working dogs are trained in searching techniques by using a combination of airborne and ground scent. They can be utilized to detect explosives in vehicles, open areas, enclosed spaces, cargo and buried explosives. Cpl. Cpl. Connor Scott, from Long Island, New York, conducts a tactical recovery of aircraft and personnel exercise along side his working dog Bobo for Blue Chromite on Okinawa, Japan Oct. 28, 2015. The event was part of Blue Chromite 2016, which builds cohesion among elements of the Marine Air Ground Task Force. Blue Chromite is a large-scale, cost-effective on-island exercise led by 4th Marine Regiment. Each element of III Marine Expeditionary Force is represented in Blue Chromite. The training gave Marines with 3rd Law Enforcement Battalion, Headquarters Company, K-9 Platoon a chance to have realistic recovery exercise.
