Marines and Sailors of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit flooded the flight deck of the USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD-6) for sunshine, music, games and food during a 4th of July celebration. Called a "Steel Beach Picnic," food service Marines and Sailors prepared more than 1,300 burgers, 800 pieces of barbecued chicken, and 800 hot dogs for the 31st MEU and ship's crew. Interview: Lance Cpl. Benjamin W. Kinney - Meteorological Forecaster Analyst for the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit and native of Medford, Oregon. Location: USS Bonhomme Richard, At Sea. Lead-In: Barbecue, sunshine, family and fireworks. These are the words we link to a typical American 4th of July celebration. Sergeant Paul Robbins Jr. shows us how the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit had the barbecue, sunshine and family while deployed at sea. Sign-Off: The 31st MEU is the Marine Corps' force in readiness for the Asia Pacific region and the only continuously forward deployed MEU. Produced by Sgt.
